Banana artisan bread in a Dutch oven

In this video, I'm excited to share with you my recipe for Banana Artisan Bread - a delightful twist on the classic bread recipe. If you love the sweet flavor of ripe bananas and the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread, this recipe is a must-try!

We'll start by combining 2 ripe bananas, 1 tsp of sugar, 2 overripe bananas, 1 egg, and 1 cup of warm water (108°F - 115°F) with 1 tsp of activated yeast. After a 10-minute rest, we'll mix in 4 cups of flour until the dough comes together. Depending on the size of your bananas, you might need to add a little extra flour. Start with three cups and add an extra ½ cup to 1 cup if needed.

Once the dough is mixed and most of the powder is gone, we'll cover it with a cloth and let it rest for 1 hour. After 1 hour, we'll add ¼ cup of warm water mixed with 1 tsp of salt. Fold in all sides of the dough, then let it proof for an additional 30 minutes.

Next, we'll roll the dough into a ball, using plenty of flour to prevent sticking. We'll cover it again and let it sit for another 30 minutes. Before baking, we'll add a decorative cross in the middle of the dough to create a beautiful design.

Preheat your Dutch oven to 450°F, then bake the bread with the lid on for 35 minutes. Afterward, remove the lid and bake for an extra 5 to 10 minutes to achieve a golden crust. Allow the bread to cool for an additional 10 to 20 minutes before slicing.

With each slice, you'll experience the delicate sweetness and moist texture that the bananas bring to this artisan bread. It's perfect for breakfast, a snack, or to accompany your favorite meals. Plus, it's a great way to use up those overripe bananas sitting on your countertop!
